Make Bomb Games Without Learning PowerPoint!

The Bomb Game Generator uses VBA (PowerPoint’s programming language) to do all the hard work for you.

Here’s all you’ll need to do:

  • Drag-and-drop or copy and paste pictures onto the Edit slides. They will automatically be resized to fit.
  • Change font settings on a single slide.
  • Save sound effects and music files to a folder on your computer.
  • Run the VBA macro (PPT 2013 or newer is required for this step).

All your images, sounds, and font settings will be copied onto all the slides. No need to fiddle with animations, copy slides, or make links. Your game will automatically be saved as a PowerPoint template file, along with thumbnail images to show off what you’ve made (example below). You will find detailed step-by-step instructions in the PowerPoint file.

Your bomb game will have the following standard features:

  • 26 Questions
  • One to five points
  • Five different special items
  • Prize Preview section for showing your students the prizes they can find before playing.

As well as these advance features:

  • Easy-to-use Scoreboard Slides for between two and six teams, with buttons to instantly reset points.
  • Compatibility with PowerPoint 2007 and newer; no need to worry about the PPT 2010 reset glitch.
  • Quickly choose specific prizes for questions in just two clicks.
  • Randomly choose prizes for questions (PPT 2010 and newer).

And several ease of use features that make using your game effortless:

  • Image placeholders allow for dragging and dropping of images on the slide (PPT 2013 and newer).
  • Text placeholders allow for easily adding questions and answers.
  • Text placeholders adjust to accept multiple lines of text.
  • Question links can be returned after they disappear.

It’s my hope that by reducing the learning and time barriers more people will be encouraged to make games. I also hope that this can help those already familiar with PowerPoint save time and add more features to their games.

If you encounter any problems or find the instructions difficult to follow, please message me via Facebook. I’m confident that it should work fine since I tested this on multiple computers running multiple versions of PowerPoint, but it’s impossible to say that nothing can wrong.

Important Note: It is fine to add pictures and change font settings in PPT 2007 and 2010, but PPT 2013 or newer is required to run the macro.
If you don’t have access to a newer version of PPT, I will help you finalize your game.

Download the Slide Master Archive

I recently decided to return to all my games and learning tools to see how they can be updated and any errors that needed to be fixed. My main goal was to make everything easier to use and share with other teachers.

I am particularly happy to say that all files (with only one exception) have been updated to not require any additional fonts. This will make them far easier to take from classroom to classroom and share online.

Click here to view a list of all files with download links and details about how they have been updated. I have included all these files into a single “archive” so that you won’t need to download each file individually. Since I use more advanced features of PowerPoint there is sometimes some confusion about how to use my games. Over the next few weeks I will shut down this blog, deleting everything but this post. I will be uploading videos describing how to use each file on my Facebook page.

Thank you so much for playing my games and I hope they can help make your life as a teacher easier and as rewarding as it was for me!
